PENGHUAN GUO
Penghuan Guo is an artist who comes from China. She was born and raised in Baoding, Hebei, a small city near Beijing where she first attended an art class. She finished her BFA at Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology in 2015 and her MFA at School of Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts in Boston (SMFA) in 2017. She Currently lives and teaches in Boston.
Penghuan made art with a lot of media while she studied at SMFA. She used to make oil painting, installation, screen printing, video, animation, and performance art. All these attempts are an in-depth exploration of contemporary art. the studying multi media gave her a stronger sense of materials, at the same time, studying in different countries makes her think more about conceptual arts. Penghuan’s works show graphic effect, usually superimposed layers of plane and lines to make a simple but strong visual impact.
Recent projects include “Crying Sun”, “A Piece of Cloud” and “Red and Blue” started from August, and the last one still in process. It is inspired by her memory of a kind of old pencil which has two colors: red and blue. It has been used in government agencies and institutions in her hometown. It is also part of her childhood drawing memories.
